CURRICULUM VITAE

CHARLES SPIJKER - THE NETHERLANDS

My acquaintance with the cat fancy goes back to l989, when the first pedigreed cat, a Maine Coon entered my home.   Since then I have been showing and breeding my cats with many success on many shows in many different countries.  Two of my Maine Coons became FIFe World Winner, one in 1992 in Luxemburg, the other one in 1997 in Hungary.

Apart from breeding and showing, I have always been actively involved in the cat fancy, first in the Dutch Maine Coon Club, then for 10 years in the show commissionof Felikat, the FIFe Member to which I belong.  Since 2007 I am a member of the FIFe Show Commissin, andserved the commission first as its secretary and since 7 years as its chairman.

My first experience as an exhibitor at a FIFe show goes back to Spring 1990, how time flies.  I went there with my first pedigreed cat, a Maine Coon.  An important reason to go there was because the show was organised very near to my home.  My guess was that if the cat wouldn't like the show, we just could go back home.....how little did I know.

The cat enjoyed the show, got an Excellent 1 in kitten class from Mr Scholer and was even nominated, although I had no clue what that meant ...

Since the cat actually enjoyed the show, I entered for a next show a few months later.  Then she had competition in her class and got Excellent 2 from Mrs Sattler.  I didn't understand ... how could this be possible for a cat that was nominated on her previous show?  but I can tell you, I have learned a lot since then.

I have showed my cats on many FIFe shows in many different countries.  Two of my Maine Coons became FIFe World Winner, one in 1992 in Luxemburg, the other one in 1997 in Hungary.

In 1998 I joined the Felikat Show Commission responsible for organising 5 international FIFe shows each year with numbers of entries varying in those days between 400 and 700.

In 2003 I started my training as a student judge in category II (semi-longhair), passed my judges' exam 2 years later and continued my studies and passing the exams in the other 3 categories, resulting in being appointed a FIFe All Breed Judge 5 years ago.

This show will be my first time judging in South Africa and I am really looking forward to meet and judge many beautiful cats!

The WODAC cat shows have become one of the major annual highlights for the cat fraternity.

In 2011 WODAC introduced a new event for the Hall of Cats, the "WODAC NATIONAL CAT SHOW".     National Shows have proved to be very successful in countries like Australia and the United Kingdom.  these shows have become successful as the winning cats may be awarded a National title.   This has encouraged exhibitors to travel from across South Africa to compete at WODAC.   All cats, pedigreed or domestic can be entered in the show.   After the completion of several elimination rounds, the winning "Champion of Champions" is crowned.
